University of Pecs - Faculty of Business and Economics (FBE)
Welcome from the Dean
Dear Prospective Students,
It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you as Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Pécs – one of the most renowned and prestigious Business Education institutions in Hungary.
Pécs has been an educational centre for centuries – ever since King Louis the Great founded the first Hungarian University in this beautiful city in 1367. Since then (with longer or shorter interruptions) the “universitas” has functioned as a powerful intellectual centre. In 1970 – the year when our institution was founded – a number of experienced professors and a (smaller) number of enthusiastic young researchers thought that, at the end of the 20th century King Louis the Great’s words were still valid: “Pécs is particularly appropriate for sowing the seeds of knowledge.”
For the last 40 years in particular, the soundness of the original idea has been clear: the Faculty of Business and Economics of the University of Pécs has attracted many students, teachers and visitors both from Hungary and abroad.
You are exploring the web-site of Hungary’s oldest University and the country’s first off-capital Faculty of Business and Economics, and you are thinking, whether it is prosperous to receive a qualification in the field of Business or Economics, and whether it is worthwhile to do so at our Faculty of the University of Pécs .
Yes, we also know that nowadays too many students study economics and business in Hungary and the world, yet economy will always demand experts with marketable knowledge, possessing up-to-date abilities and skills. The reputation of the degrees earned at the University of Pécs is built by its competitiveness. The traditionally high-quality education ensures that our Faculty can fully prepare students for a successful withstand in the keen professional competition of the labour market. All these combined with a variety of special students program, a diversity of the city’s cultural life plus a modern campus contribute to the unusually high quality of the education at the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Pécs.
If you are dedicated, and take your future career seriously, if you are ready to take the extra work needed, then I think it really is worthwhile to choose the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Pécs

Our Faculty believes that establishing extensive networks is essential for successful operation. Accordingly, the newly established Office of Faculty Relations is responsible for creating the frame for internal and external faculty relations i.e. building partnerships with national and international educational institutions in terms of student, teaching and research as well as staff mobility, and establishing close and sustainable co-operation with prospective students, alumni and the business community.
Reasons for choosing the Faculty of Business and Economics, UP
Though our school has always been a significant institution of the Hungarian economics-related education, the professional and scientific reputation in general has been steadily and progressively increasing in the past few years - both nationally and internationally. Due to Hungarian higher education’s transition to the Bologna system our programs are fully cross-creditable with the programs of other schools of business and economics depending on the institutions’ rules for credit transfer.
